  1. Good collection of information. However I do believe that the sword was given to Shivaji by Bhawani mata. British destroyed histroy of Shivaji to a large extent. Not finding any evidence does not mean it was not true. It means we should just search more, truth can not be hidden for a long time

    1. LISTEN VISHAL.....
THE SWORD WAS NOT GIVEN BY BAVANI.
THE NAME OF THE SWORD WAS BAVANI...
THE ORIGINAL SWORD IS IN KERALA WITH ARYAN NAMBOODIRI MAHARISHIS.
THE ORIGINAL BAVANI SWORD HAS KERALIAN METALLURGY AND SHIVAI CHATRAPATHI WORN IN HIS WAIST A SPECIAL TYPE OF URUMI.

      THE SWORD WAS PATTA SWORD.....
      VERY POWERFUL THAN KATANA.

THERE WERE MANY SWORDS WHICH WAS GIVEN NAME.
JAGADAMBA IS ANOTHER SWORD....WHICH WAS USED BY SHIVAI IN HEAVY BATTLES.

THIS BAVANI AND JAGADAMBA WAS THE 2 SWORD NAMES GIVEN BY HIS MOTHER JIJAU.

  6. MY DEAR FRDS I undersand ur all feeling about bhavani talwar...

But if this sord was givn to Bitish member of Royal Family as a gift by Lord Shivaji the vi'th (as stated in this study also) in that case it would b completely unethical to 2 demand it back from British Royal Family . As this was one of the tradition of indian and British royal families to give presents (NAZRANA)to each other.
Th same logic also applies to KOHINUL DIMOND which was presented by MAHARAJA OF PTIYAlLA to QUIN VICTORIA

However i have never seen any gift from BRITISHI OR any other ROYAL FAMILY in any of indian musium. I am sure, There must be few of such in the personal collection of indian Royal famlies, like UDAYPUR, HAYDRABAD AND PATIYALA ROYAL FAMILIES.

  20. With due respect to everybody's thought I will say,
Let our beloved Chhatrapati's Talwar be safe at England BECAUSE unfortunately here in India I dont think it will remain safe. As everyone know how our existing heritage articles are preserved and how safe they are here. So sadly (yeah with real tears in my eyes) I again will say; Those old gold days of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj are no more to come back in this political and corroption laden country.
So let my highest respected Maharaj's Talwar remain safe at England.

  21. Why should the Shivaji Maharaj's sword be kept with Royal Family of UK.
Let us work hard & pursue the British High Commission to bring back the Jagdamba & Bhawani Sword back to India. Let the government form a Museum on Raigad & keep such valuable weapons & other articles from the graeat Maratha history so that atleast our next generation will be aware of our great heroes.

  43. Shivaji was a great maratha warrior. I proud to be a Maratha and Marathi off course. Shivaji is the only warrior who could not be defeated by Aurangjeb. Shivaji, with only a small army fought against strong Mughal Emperors and won almost all the battles. Further his son Sambhaji too continued the same tradition and won all the battles(almost 200)in two years. What they warriors were.

  52. The Goddess is universal and all humanity are Her children, so no one should be possessive about Her sword. It belongs to Her not to any one person or group. But at the same time, it means most to the people of Maharashtra because it is a part of their history and identity. So it belongs there.

  69. The original painting of Shivaji was discovered by the great historian VS Bendre. Until this discovery the painting that was thought to be of Shivaji Maharaj was that of a Muslim Sardar. Historian VS Bendre also found the Sword of Shivaji called "Jagdambh". Shri VS Bendrey wrote close to 60 books on Maratha history and was a key figure in clearing the name of Sambhaji Maharaj to read more google VS Bendrey.http://historianbendrey.blogspot.com/. The Original painting of Shivaji Maharaj can also be found at the site.

  72. I believe that the sword of Shivaji Maharaj is still with us, so are his other belongings. We don't have any tradition of giving away so dear a family possession ... the British got a duplicate one....if the Govt is not so ready to snatch it from Shivaji's descendants we may see the light of it

CHATRAPATI saved us from evil society. And because of him we are today who we're!!! So Thank God we have been born here and we are happy.

About bringing back the sword, i must say we don't deserve it until and unless we overcome our current PROBLEMS . so after conquering current situations we will CONQUER TAKHTA-A-LONDON

  75. I have read the interesting comments about Shivaji's Sword. I am a die hard Hindu brahmin and a RSS. How does it matter the existance of the Sword in a particular place. What will you do once the sword is in India. It has taken more than 350 years for you all to realise. The anxity last till we dont have it once we have it, it will only remain covered in the Musuem. How many of us visit the Museum?? i dont care whether the Sword is in India or UK. Once the people have seen it once then what next. The emotions are short lived. lets look at a bigger pictures.i would certainly love to have it back.

  77. Whether the sword was given by bhavani mata or not is not the question dear. I've fact is that shree shivaji maharaj was given to us by God.
If shivaji maharaj would not have been there you would have been named a kateli...

  82. I am a British citizen living in Mumbai. I have been researching the history and current location of Shivaji's swords.

In February 2016 I contacted the Victoria & Albert Museum, London asking about their collection. I have received a reply from Emma Rogers (Assistant Curator, South & South East Asia):

"I’m afraid no sword connected to Shivaji has ever been part of the V&A’s collection or held on Loan by us (to the best of our knowledge). I am attaching a copy of an article which appeared in the Indian publication, Marg, some time ago, which summarises current thinking on the sword, suggesting that it has never been positively identified and may still be at Satara"

The very interesting article Emma attached is from 1982, and can be viewed here:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/vbit6y05j6vuujf/The%20Bhavani%20Sword%20of%20Shivaji%2C%20P.M.Joshi%2C%20Marg%20Publications%2C%201982.pdf?dl=0

Does anybody have more recent *evidence-backed* information about the location of Shivaji's swords, beyond what is written in this 1982 article?

  83. I believe the sword with Brits isnt the authentic Sword given to him by Maa Bhavani. If it were given by Maa Bhavani, she knows how to protect it and can never fall in the hands of Mlecha class!
